Unity in the Body: Part Two

What happens when Christians disagree over personal convictions and preferences? In Romans 14:1–15:7, Paul reminds us that unity doesn't require uniformity. Christians can agree on the essentials of the gospel and still disagree over personal convictions and preferences. In Romans 14:1–12, Paul challenges believers to stop making their personal preferences the standard for everyone else. While the church in Rome was getting sideways about what they could and couldn't eat and what days they needed to hold as special, we have our own lists of personal preferences today. For the sake of church unity, we must learn to distinguish essential beliefs clearly defined in God's Word from disputed matters where Scripture might not be clear one way or the other.

As followers of Jesus, our highest allegiance belongs not to a government, political party, or earthly authority, but to Christ alone. In Romans 13, Paul challenges believers to live differently because of the gospel. We are called to respect governing authorities, demonstrate genuine love toward others, and live with expectation of Christ’s return. In this message, we discover that our relationship with Jesus should shape our attitudes, relationships, and daily decisions. Ultimately, because we belong to Jesus, our lives should reflect Him in everything we do.

Loving people is easy when they love us back. But what happens when someone hurts us, criticizes us, or treats us unfairly? In Romans 12:14–21, Paul challenges believers to love differently. Real love moves toward people, refuses to get even, and chooses good over evil. We don’t have to settle every score or win every argument. Because of the mercy we’ve received through Jesus, we can love even those who have wronged us. That’s when real love goes to work.

In Romans 12:9–13, Paul reminds us that genuine love is more than words or good intentions. Real love has conviction, gets to work, and doesn’t quit. It rejects evil, clings to what is good, serves others with passion, and perseveres through difficult seasons. In this message, “The Blue Collar Church,” we discover that the church is not meant to be an audience but a family that rolls up its sleeves and serves. Because Jesus first loved us, we are called to put that same love into action.

In Romans 12:3–8, Paul reminds us that every believer has a vital role in the body of Christ. Through four powerful truths—nobody is everything, everybody is somebody, everybody has something, and everybody should do something—we discover the importance of humility, unity, spiritual gifts, and serving others. God has uniquely gifted each of us, not for personal recognition, but to strengthen His church. Because of the extraordinary grace we've received through Jesus Christ, we are called to use what God has given us to serve one another.

For twenty years, The Station Church has experienced the faithfulness of God. In this special anniversary message from 1 Samuel 7 and Psalm 37, we look back and declare with Samuel, “The Lord has helped us to this point.” In this message, we do not simply look back to remind us of where God has been faithful. We also look forward with confidence to trust Him for what lies ahead. As we celebrate all God has done, we look forward with faith, trusting Him with the next twenty years.

Romans 12 marks a turning point: after eleven chapters explaining what God has done for us, Paul shows us how we should live in response. In view of God’s incredible mercy, we are called to surrender our lives as living sacrifices, renew our minds through God’s truth, and walk confidently in His will. The Christian life isn’t about earning God’s love—it’s responding to love already received. The question is simple: If Jesus has given you all of Himself, how much of you does He have?

In Romans 11:30–36, Paul moves from deep theology to passionate worship. God’s mercy reminds us that none of us earned our salvation, while His unsearchable wisdom teaches us to trust Him even when we cannot understand His ways. Ultimately, everything in life is from Him, through Him, and to Him. This message challenges us to marvel at God’s mercy, rest in God’s mystery, and live every part of our lives for the glory of God.

In Romans 11:1–27, Paul reminds us that God is always faithful to His promises. Through the picture of an olive tree, we see God preserve a remnant by grace, extend salvation to the Gentiles, warn against pride and superficial faith, and promise restoration for Israel. “God’s Family Tree” challenges us to examine whether our faith is truly rooted in Christ and reminds us that genuine saving faith is a faith that endures.
